We wipe noses, change diapers, read stories in silly voices. We sing what we’re doing. We tend to gardens, hold worms for busy toddlers, fill tables with water and sand. We come home covered in mud and paint and sometimes boogers. We teach consent. We co-regulate. We’re there through tears and screams. We’re there for quiet moments and new discoveries and taking risks.

Some of us have graduate degrees. Or years of experience. Or we are brand new to the field and we have ideas to make things better.

We create spaces where all families are welcome. We work toward a more equitable future.

Unlike doctors, lawyers, or other educated professionals – preschool teachers are often asked what they would like to do “next.” This blog will be made up of stories, reflections, and insights I’ve made in my years as an Early Childhood Educator. My hope is that these writings will demonstrate the many reasons why it is enough to be just a preschool teacher.
